§5.98.1ΜΗΛ.
ἐν δ’ ἐκείνῳ οὐ νομίζετε ἀσφάλειαν;
MELIANS "But do you not recognize security in that?

ὅσοι γὰρ νῦν μηδετέροις ξυμμαχοῦσι, πῶς οὐ πολεμώσεσθε αὐτούς, ὅταν ἐς τάδε βλέψαντες ἡγήσωνταί ποτε ὑμᾶς καὶ ἐπὶ σφᾶς ἥξειν;
For as for all those who are currently allied with neither side, how will you not make them your enemies, when they look at these actions and believe that you will one day come against them too?
κἀν τούτῳ τί ἄλλο ἢ τοὺς μὲν ὑπάρχοντας πολεμίους μεγαλύνετε, τοὺς δὲ μηδὲ μελλήσαντας γενέσθαι ἄκοντας ἐπάγεσθε;
And in this, what else are you doing than strengthening your existing enemies, and bringing upon yourselves against their will those who had not even intended to become so?"
