§5.67.1τότε δὲ κέρας μὲν εὐώνυμον Σκιρῖται αὐτοῖς καθίσταντο, αἰεὶ ταύτην τὴν τάξιν μόνοι Λακεδαιμονίων ἐπὶ σφῶν αὐτῶν ἔχοντες·
At that time, the Sciritae occupied their left wing, who alone of the Lacedaemonians always hold this position by themselves.
παρὰ δ’ αὐτοὺς οἱ ἀπὸ Θρᾴκης Βρασίδειοι στρατιῶται καὶ νεοδαμώδεις μετ’ αὐτῶν·
Next to them were the soldiers of Brasidas from Thrace, and the Neodamodeis with them.
ἔπειτ’ ἤδη Λακεδαιμόνιοι αὐτοὶ ἑξῆς καθίστασαν τοὺς λόχους, καὶ παρ’ αὐτοὺς Ἀρκάδων Ἡραιῆς, μετὰ δὲ τούτους Μαινάλιοι, καὶ ἐπὶ τῷ δεξιῷ κέρᾳ Τεγεᾶται καὶ Λακεδαιμονίων ὀλίγοι τὸ ἔσχατον ἔχοντες, καὶ οἱ ἱππῆς αὐτῶν ἐφ’ ἑκατέρῳ τῷ κέρᾳ.
Next to these, the Lacedaemonians themselves in succession drew up their regiments; and next to them were the Heraians of Arcadia, and after them the Maenalians, and on the right wing were the Tegeans and a few of the Lacedaemonians holding the extreme end, and their cavalry was on each of the wings.
§5.67.2Λακεδαιμόνιοι μὲν οὕτως ἐτάξαντο·
In this manner the Lacedaemonians drew themselves up.
οἱ δ’ ἐναντίοι αὐτοῖς δεξιὸν μὲν κέρας Μαντινῆς εἶχον, ὅτι ἐν τῇ ἐκείνων τὸ ἔργον ἐγίγνετο, παρὰ δ’ αὐτοὺς οἱ ξύμμαχοι Ἀρκάδων ἦσαν, ἔπειτα Ἀργείων οἱ χίλιοι λογάδες, οἷς ἡ πόλις ἐκ πολλοῦ ἄσκησιν τῶν ἐς τὸν πόλεμον δημοσίᾳ παρεῖχε, καὶ ἐχόμενοι αὐτῶν οἱ ἄλλοι Ἀργεῖοι, καὶ μετ’ αὐτοὺς οἱ ξύμμαχοι αὐτῶν, Κλεωναῖοι καὶ Ὀρνεᾶται, ἔπειτα Ἀθηναῖοι ἔσχατοι τὸ εὐώνυμον κέρας ἔχοντες, καὶ ἱππῆς μετ’ αὐτῶν οἱ οἰκεῖοι.
On the other hand, their opponents had the Mantineans holding the right wing, because the action was taking place in their territory; and next to them were the allies from Arcadia, then the thousand select troops of the Argives, for whom the state had for a long time provided military training at the public expense; next to them were the other Argives, and after them their allies, the Cleonaeans and Orneates; and then the Athenians held the extreme left wing, having their own cavalry with them.
