§28.5.1κατὰ δὲ τὴν Ἀκαρνανίαν συναχθείσης τῆς ἐκκλησίας εἰς Θύρρειον, Αἰσχρίων μὲν καὶ Γλαῦκος καὶ Χρέμας ὄντες Ῥωμαίων παρεκάλουν τοὺς περὶ τὸν Γάιον ἔμφρουρον ποιῆσαι τὴν Ἀκαρνανίαν· §28.5.2εἶναι γὰρ παρʼ αὐτοῖς τοὺς ἀποφέροντας τὰ πράγματα πρὸς Περσέα καὶ Μακεδόνας.
In Acarnania, when the assembly was convened at Thyrrheum, Aeschrion, Glaucus, and Chremas, who were on the side of the Romans, urged Gaius and his colleagues to place a garrison in Acarnania; for they said that there were those among them who were turning affairs in favor of Perseus and the Macedonians.
§28.5.3Διογένης δὲ τὴν ἐναντίαν ἐποιήσατο τούτοις συμβουλίαν.
But Diogenes gave the opposite advice to them.
οὐ γὰρ ἔφη δεῖν φρουρὰν εἰσάγειν εἰς οὐδεμίαν πόλιν· ταῦτα γὰρ ὑπάρχειν τοῖς πολεμίοις γενομένοις καὶ καταπολεμηθεῖσιν ὑπὸ Ῥωμαίων· §28.5.4οὐδὲν δὲ πεποιηκότας Ἀκαρνᾶνας οὐκ ἀξίους εἶναι φρουρὰν εἰσδέχεσθαι κατʼ οὐδένα τρόπον.
For he said that a garrison ought not to be introduced into any city; for this was the lot of those who had become enemies and had been thoroughly defeated by the Romans; and that the Acarnanians, having done nothing wrong, did not deserve to receive a garrison in any way.
§28.5.5τοὺς δὲ περὶ Χρέμαν καὶ Γλαῦκον ἰδίαν ἐθέλοντας κατασκευάζεσθαι δυναστείαν διαβάλλειν τοὺς ἀντιπολιτευομένους καὶ θέλειν ἐπισπᾶσθαι φρουρὰν τὴν συνεπισχύουσαν ταῖς αὐτῶν πλεονεξίαις.
He added that Chremas, Glaucus, and their party, wishing to establish their own private power, were slandering their political opponents, and wished to draw in a garrison that would support their own greedy ambitions.
§28.5.6ῥηθέντων δὲ τούτων οἱ περὶ τὸν Γάιον θεωροῦντες τοὺς ὄχλους δυσαρεστουμένους ταῖς φρουραῖς καὶ βουλόμενοι στοιχεῖν τῇ τῆς συγκλήτου προθέσει, συγκαταθέμενοι τῇ τοῦ Διογένους γνώμῃ καὶ συνεπαινέσαντες ἀπῆραν ἐπὶ Λαρίσης πρὸς τὸν ἀνθύπατον. —
When these things had been said, Gaius and his colleagues, seeing that the multitudes were displeased with garrisons and wishing to conform to the policy of the senate, agreed with the opinion of Diogenes and joined in commending him, and then departed for Larissa to meet the proconsul.
