§8.72.1

These were the Greeks who went to the help of the Isthmus in full force: the Lacedaemonians, all the Arcadians, the Eleans, the Corinthians, the Epidaurians, the Phliasians, the Troezenians, and the Hermionians. These were the ones who went to help and were deeply anxious for Greece in her danger; but the other Peloponnesians cared nothing. And the Olympic and Carnean festivals were now already past.

Syntax notes3 items
  1. 8.72.1Ἑλλήνων

Partitive genitive, depending on the preceding noun phrase "those who came to the rescue..." (οἱ δὲ βοηθήσαντες...). It means "Of the Greeks, these were the ones who...".

  2. 8.72.1ὑπεραρρωδέοντες

Present participle of ὑπεραρρωδέω (to be deeply anxious), grouped together with the preceding βοηθήσαντες under the single article οἱ ("those who came to help and were deeply anxious"). It governs the dative τῇ Ἑλλάδι.

  3. 8.72.1ἔμελε

Imperfect of the impersonal verb μέλει (to be a care to). It takes the dative of person concerned (τοῖσι δὲ ἄλλοισι Πελοποννησίοισι) and the adverbial accusative οὐδέν (nothing/at all), meaning 'to the other Peloponnesians it was of no concern at all.'
