§1.177.1

While Harpagus, then, was laying waste the lower parts of Asia, Cyrus himself subdued the upper parts of it, conquering every nation and passing over none. Now, the greater part of these events I shall pass over; but those which caused him the greatest trouble and are the most worthy of relation, of these I shall make mention.

Syntax notes2 items

The verb phrase from the first clause, ἀνάστατα ἐποίεε (was laying waste), or a verb corresponding to the participle καταστρεφόμενος (such as κατεστρέφετο, was subduing) is understood with the subject αὐτὸς Κῦρος.

  2. 1.177.1οἱ

The third-person singular dative pronoun, referring here to Cyrus. It functions as the dative object ('to him') of the verb παρέσχε (caused) within the relative clause, rather than being dependent on the main verb ἐπιμνήσομαι.
